Triticale #422T
NE422T is a forage triticale with excellent forage yield and good winterhardiness. This forage triticale was developed cooperatively by the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station and the USDA-ARS

NE422T is late in maturity (7 days later than Newcale, 6 days later than Presto, 5 days later than the wheat variety Arapahoe, and 1 day earlier than Trical 100) with winterhardiness that surpasses other forage triticale varieties.

NE422T is a tall, forage triticale (58 in); roughly, 3 in taller than Trical 100, 12 in taller than Presto and Newcale, and 19 in taller than the wheat variety Arapahoe . Straw strength is average for a tall triticale cultivar.

NE422T is moderately resistant to the currently prevalent races of stem rust and leaf rust. NE422T is moderately resistant to wheat streak mosaic virus. Ergot has not been found in the Ne422T when the disease was present in the other triticales under similar growing conditions.

Forage yield trials indicate NE422T is a competitive forage triticale throughout Nebraska and surrounding states. NE422T has good fall growth habits and early spring growth. Good forage for fall and spring grazing as well as a silage and forage hay crop.

Seed of NE422T is protected under the Plant Variety Protection ACT (PVPA 1994) and may be sold only as a class of Certified seed. NE422T was licensed to NuPride Genetics Network in September of 2000. Unauthorized Sale of Seed is illegal.
